Automotive manufacturers, in an endless quest to improve vehicle safety and design autonomous vehicles, can now benefit from a single image sensor that can see, determine distances, and identify obstacles, in daylight, night time and harsh weather conditions.
BWV active gated technology operates like an optical radar, combining two key components: A specially designed gated-camera sensor and a Near Infrared pulsed-illumination source.
Using Time-Of-Flight (TOF) algorithms, the gated camera and the illuminator pulses are synchronized, and an active gated-image is generated. These images are further used to generate range maps information (3D range data).
BWV provides the gated-image sensor, and pulsed light module, as components to be integrated into car mounted cameras, and headlight assemblies.

AGCMOS and GCMOS

AGCMOS

Automotive Gated CMOS Image Sensor (AGCMOS) is a digital image sensor designed for exceptional performance for automotive applications. The AGCMOS provides the capability of multiple sensor exposures, per a single image frame readout. It enables active gated-imaging technology for automotive applications. It combines a 800 by 480 Pixel array of high sensitivity, low-noise, gated, pinned photodiode-based pixels, a high-speed readout path with an A/D converter, and LVDS/CMOS output. All these functions make the AGCMOS the first high speed gated and versatile automotive image sensor.

Gated CMOS Image Sensor (GCMOS) is a digital image sensor designed for exceptional performance. The GCMOS provides the capability of a multiple sensor exposures per a single image frame readout. It enables active gated-imaging technology. It combines a 1.2M Pixel array of high sensitivity low-noise gated pinned photodiode-based pixels, a high-speed readout path with an A/D converter, and LVDS/CMOS output.

Some of the characteristics of the GCMOS include:

  • Resolution: 1280 by 960
  • 10μm X 10μm pixel size
  • Digital Output (LVDS)

LASER MODULE

LASER MODULE

The pulsed Laser Module (LM) is designed for exceptional performance and low cost, enabling the use of active gated-imaging technology in automotive applications. The LM is based on Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology, operating at the Near Infrared (NIR) spectrum. The LM (coupled to an electronic driver) provides high efficiency, high power pulses, with fast rise and fall times and variable pulse durations, making it the first solution for active gated-imaging applications.

Some of the characteristics of the LM include:

BRIGHTEYE SAMPLE

 

In order to help OEMs, Tier1 suppliers select and implement BWV’s active gated technology, BWV has developed BrightEye™. BrightEye™ module kit enables the user to experience and demonstrate the benefits of BWV technology as to ADAS functions and autonomous driving.
BrightEye™ provides vision and ranging capabilities for ADAS & HAD features in all driving and weather conditions such as: night, day and harsh weather (rain, snow, mist and fog).

BrightEye™ provides:

  • Natural and intuitive contrast images
  • Superb performance in harsh weather such as rain, snow, mist and fog
  • Homogenous imagery throughout the entire range
  • Outstanding obstacle detection and forward collision warning based on active-gated technology
  • Exceptional distance from obstacle measurement

In addition to the hardware components, BWV also provides the operating code and the general knowhow required to integrate this hardware into a specific car, or generic kit.
